FEATURED ADVERTISERS:   BEEKEEPERS
The vast majority of beekeepers own European honey bees and keep bees in order to make honey. Local beekeepers produce local honey. Some beekeepers sell their honey to larger honey brands while others sell their honey themselves. Some beekeepers keep millions of bees in hundreds of hives while other beekeepers are small businesses that only have a few hives. Some beekeepers keep bees and harvest beeswax and honey as a way to supplement their income while other beekeepers make beekeeping their primary job. When beekeepers need to buy hives or hive parts like supers they go to stores or wholesalers that sell beekeeping equipment.

Beekeepers deal with bumble bee, pollen, killer bee, stings and sting treatment, Africanized bee, carpenter, drone, honey comb, hornet, identification, leaf cutter, male, nest, paper wasp, picture, queen, sweat bee, worker bee and other issues, bees and information. There are several questions that you might need to ask in order to determine which company can give you the supplies and services that you need. When you contact the beekeepers, ask them where they are located. You might find that some of them are national companies while others are statewide or local. You might also find that some of the national companies have locations in your area. If you find the company on the Internet, then you should ask them if they are strictly an online entity or if they have a physical location as well. Ask for references, contact information, quotes and an outline of company policy. Ask them if they provide delivery services for the goods that you purchase from them. Ask how long they have been in operation and make sure the company you choose has proper licenses and certificates. You should also ask the beekeepers what types of honey they produce. Many people find that they prefer the honeys made by the pollen that bumble bees collect. Beekeepers that produce honey do not usually keep Africanized bees, also known as killer bees, yellow jackets, wasps, paper wasps, or other types that are known to sting. When the companies' reps are answering your questions, pay attention to the level of courtesy that they use. This can often indicate how you will be treated in the future. By knowing what questions to ask, you should be able to find the beekeeper that is best for you.
